The Retreat Manchester

The Retreat, Manchester at Hampden House is a centre of excellence providing psychotherapy to adults experiencing a wide range of personal difficulties.

Hampden House was purchased by The Retreat in April 2021 and it is now known as The Retreat Manchester, at Hampden House.

The therapists working at Hampden House are all fully qualified and experienced and are registered either with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the British Confederation of Psychotherapists (BCP), the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP) or the British Psychological Society (BPS), or are accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

These registration bodies establish the highest standards of professional competence and ethical practice and require all registrants to commit to an ongoing process of continuing professional development. All our therapists meet these stringent requirements and have many years of post-qualifying experience.

Each therapist is required to be in clinical supervision (professional consultation) in accordance with standards set by UKCP and BACP. This ensures careful scrutiny of all clinical work and ensures the best possible service to clients of the centre.

Our mission

To deliver high quality, sustainable, renowned mental health and wellbeing services, helping people to live well with themselves so that we all live better together.

As an independent charity, we provide care to people who refer themselves and those who are referred to us by GPs and other professionals. We can often help when others can’t, enabling people to get their lives back on track.

Our organisation has its roots in York’s Quaker community and we do our best to sustain our Quaker history and heritage.

Why us?

The Retreat has a reputation for excellence and over 200 years’ experience.

Our services are run by a team of highly experienced and professionally accredited staff who seek to reflect the tolerance, humanity and values of our Quaker roots.

We provide tailored care which is personalised and effective, and we’ve harnessed emerging technology to provide online consultations.

What do we offer?

We offer a range of individual, couples and group therapies in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance. All of our therapists are highly trained, accredited, experienced and committed to continuing professional development. Many therapists have training in more than one therapeutic modality, and are therefore in the best position to offer tailored, individualised therapy to meet your needs, drawing from the most up to date, evidence-based interventions.

Our therapies can be delivered face to face, in relaxing therapy rooms. However if you are unable to come to The Retreat for your appointments, whatever the reason, we can offer you an appointment via video link, often using Microsoft Teams.
