Therapeutic Model

I currently deliver CBT and EMDR in line with the NICE guidelines for the treatment of a range of common mental health problems and more complex mental health problems. CBT is an evidenced based approach which is aims to empower clients(people) by giving them the tools to understand and overcome their problems.

Fundamentally, CBT aims to enhance our understanding of the relationship between the way that we think, feel and behave, helping us to become more aware of certain patterns and how can affect us in the here and now.

CBT is a collaborative therapeutic treatment approach and combines a range of cognitive and behavioural strategies to explore and make sense of your experiences and how they relate individually to you.

CBT has a further aim in that it helps you to effectively become your own therapist. CBT can be an effective short-term to medium term treatment for many disorders such as:

Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Health Anxiety
Social Anxiety
Specific Phobias
Panic and Panic Disorder
Body Dysmorphia- BDD
Eating Disorders
Traumatic Grief

It is also helpful for helping people work on improving low self-esteem and anger related issues.

EMDR- EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing is another NICE approved evidence-based psychotherapy for the treatment of Trauma, PTSD and anxiety related problems.

EMDR is a therapy that does not require talking in detail about a distressing event such as a trauma or other distressing incident which may have occurred.

EMDR supports the brain’s natural capacity to heal with bi-lateral stimulation to parts of the brain to help to resolve unprocessed memories.

EMDR can help with :

PTSD and Trauma and trauma/stress related issues.
Chronic Health Issues
Performance Anxiety
Grief and Loss
Other mood disorders
Sexual Assault/Abuse
Sleep Problems
Complex PTSD

In My Own Words

I currently enjoy flexibility to work with people presenting with a diverse range of needs from a range of different backgrounds.

I would describe myself as a compassionate and reflective therapist, who works in a very client centred way, ie to ensure that you, the client is always at the centre of therapy/treatment. I have a keen interest in nature and how nature can be highly beneficial to our wellbeing, through mindful walking to forest bathing. I also have an interest in supporting animal charities and welfare work and enjoy travel.
