Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
I am registered as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the UKCP: 06158760. I am registered as a psychodynamic psychotherapist with the BPC: 21334/
My qualifications are the Diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the North West Institute of Dynamic Psychotherapy (UKCP-accredited), which I gained in 2006; and the Relate Certificate in Couple Counselling Theory and Practice, which I gained in 1997.
I am a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapy, through which I am registered with the BPC, and I am a professional member of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy.
I have fifteen years’ experience as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice, as well as an earlier ten years’ experience in counselling. I was attracted to the profession originally by my own introspection and difficulties in living. It is still helpful in that regard, and it is also an endlessly interesting discipline both clinically and academically.
The value of psychotherapy, as I understand it, lies in its usefulness in helping a person to gain some mastery over ingrained states of mind that hamper his or her capacity to live in a rewarding and productive way.
Psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy is a form of treatment that helps us to know about and modify unconscious ways of functioning that can prevent us deriving satisfaction from our work and relationships. Analytic work offers the hope of new decisiveness and flexibility in living.
